India produced more than 7,00,000 tonnes of shrimp in 2019 and exported more than 6,20,000 tonnes to the United States, European Union, Japan and China. The production comes from around 1,70,000 ha of shrimp farms along the countrys coast, with Andhra Pradesh contributing a major share of more than 4,00,000 tonnes.
