Temasek Holdings is close to acquiring a significant minority stake in VFS Global, valuing the firm at around $7 billion including debt. The Singapore state-owned investor is set to buy about 20% of VFS, which is controlled by Blackstone Inc. An announcement could be made soon.

At least eight people died during a failed attempt to cross the English Channel from northern France. The incident occurred near Ambleteuse, where a boat carrying dozens of migrants was in distress. Rescue services assisted 53 migrants, but eight died despite emergency care. Survivors are from Eritrea, Sudan, Syria, Afghanistan, Egypt, and Iran.

Lebanese novelist Elias Khoury, known for his dedication to the Palestinian cause and his outspoken criticism of Middle Eastern dictatorships, has died at 76. Khoury, a prominent intellectual and author, was also a vocal supporter of Arab uprisings and served as editor-in-chief of the Palestine Studies magazine until his death.
