State: Illinois Please post the following vacancy for the University of Chicago Library: The Associate Law Librarian for User Services manages and directs all D'Angelo Law Library (DLL) user services programs, including access services, circulation, reference, course reserves, faculty services, student services, document delivery, interlibrary loan, outreach and instruction. Oversees the work of 4 professional librarians, the Head of Access Services, 5 full-time support staff, and student staff. Manages the development, implementation, and assessment of the Library's Anglo-American collection and non-legal subject areas within the scope of the DLL Collection Development Policy. Coordinates collection development of Anglo-American and non-legal subject areas with the Library's civil, international, and comparative law collections. Serves as an interpreter and an advocate for the faculty and students of the Law School in the larger setting of the University Library. Establishes a D'Angelo Law Library Student Advisory Board and coordinates the work of that group with the Law Instruction and Outreach Librarian. Participates as a member of the D'Angelo Law Library's senior administration in planning, policy development, and budget formulation. Represents the D'Angelo Law Library user services departments in local, regional and national associations and in the Chicago Legal Academic System (CLAS). Works on consortia initiatives. Participates in professional organizations and activities. Coordinates user services activities with those of other members of the Chicago Legal Academic System and the Chicago Association of Law Libraries. Required: Graduate library degree from an accredited library school; JD from an ABA accredited law school; at least 5 years of professional experience in an academic law library including successful senior level supervisory and administrative experience in all aspects of user services: *United States legal reference and bibliography *Legal research instruction *Collection development *Library space planning *Faculty and student services programs *Access services and circulation Experience teaching and designing curriculum for legal research instruction and learning opportunities; comprehensive knowledge of academic research library organization and procedures; understanding of national issues and developments in areas of access and users services; experience and expertise in library software programs and awareness of emerging technologies.
