The Mary Couts Burnett Library at Texas Christian University seeks a creative, energetic and process-oriented Access Services Librarian to manage the staff and operations for a new offsite, high-density shelving facility. The Library will be moving a large portion of the collections to this new facility and will be implementing a new service model and workflows including scanning and document delivery services and daily courier deliveries of materials to the main campus Library.
Job Responsibilities:
Ensures efficient material fulfillment to library patrons by scheduling, supervising, and participating in daily operations; troubleshooting and resolving operational issues.
Enables staff to provide superior customer service by providing and reporting technology support and equipment issues; recommending technology and equipment enhancements; conduct periodic review to recommend access policies and establish procedures
Facilitates flow of materials by consulting with supervisor and colleagues to resolve workflow issues; prioritizing assigned tasks based on departmental needs; recommending process improvements
Supervises library specialists by training and mentoring; advising and answering questions; writing and implementing procedures; appraising job results through performance evaluations
Contributes to library internal communication by serving on committees, task forces, and teams, as assigned
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications
Some nights and weekends may be required
Job Requirements:
ALA accredited Masters in Library Science
3 years of library experience including 1 year in a supervisory capacity
background in using an integrated library system and OCLC
ability to foster and manage change in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple administrative tasks simultaneously
ability to apply leadership, management and interpersonal techniques that encourage teamwork
ability to work in a team environment and develop and maintain productive collaborative relations
knowledge of information and bibliographic management systems and their application to access and user services
knowledge of customer service techniques and ability to improve service to library users
knowledge of copyright and fair-use practices in an academic environment
Desired skills and experience:
Previous employment in an Interlibrary Loan department, high density shelving operations and/or a Circulation department
Texas Christian University is a private, doctoral granting university with an enrollment of about 9,500 students. The Mary Couts Burnett Library has a full time staff of 60, and a collection that includes over 2 million books and audio-visual materials and over 75,000 current journals, electronically and in paper.
