The University of Nevada, Reno Libraries seeks a creative, service oriented Engineering Librarian for the DeLaMare Library, serving Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM). The successful candidate for this position will be forward thinking, knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the changing nature of librarianship. The faculty position shares responsibility for all aspects of the DeLaMare Library services and operations -- reference, instruction, circulation and outreach services; collection development; organization and maintenance of collections; facilities management; staff management and supervision; and the collaborative development of digital library initiatives.
Liaison responsibilities are a significant part of the position. The Engineering Librarian will build relationships with faculty and students across the College of Engineering and other STEAM disciplines, developing collaborative projects and incorporating current and emerging technologies into library practice as well as research and instruction. The successful applicant will maintain communication within and beyond the department -- catalyzing, supporting, and participating in outreach activities that involve local businesses and community organizations engaged in related activities.
The DeLaMare Library, the science and engineering branch of the University Libraries, is a dynamic, technology rich research library noted for its innovative, user-centered services. The Engineering Librarian is expected to support leading edge technologies, continuously innovating and promoting the Librarys reputation as an experimental, active-learning environment.
Required qualifications:
ALA-accredited MLS or ALA-recognized international equivalent
Experience in a library or instruction setting
Experience using library and computing resources
Desirable qualifications:
Educational background in engineering or other STEAM discipline or work experience with science and engineering information sources
Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging technologies as they contribute to meeting the needs of faculty and students
Experience with SolidWorks, Autodesk suite, other engineering software and Adobe Creative suite
Salary and Benefits:
This is a full-time, temporary faculty position with healthcare and retirement benefits. The appointment is for one year with the intent to renew for two additional years contingent upon funding and satisfactory performance. Salary: $45,000-$55,000. Benefits: TIAA/CREF and other retirement options; 24 vacation days per year; generous sick leave. No state income tax or FICA. Tuition benefits for self and family.
